The Daily Inter Lake reports that man drowned Monday evening while attempting to “river surf” on the North Fork of the Flathead River. The 30-year-old man drowned while trying to get onto the surfboard in the river near the Polebridge Ranger Station. The Polebridge Mercantile recently was awarded a $20,000 grant from the state’s Growth Through Agriculture program. The money will be used to help the North Fork-based business expand into its second location at Stumptown Market in Whitefish and to purchase huckleberries and other local produce needed for its baked goods.
The Hungry Horse News reports that the Root Beer Classic sled dog race is slated to return to Polebridge after a seven-year long hiatus.
