Next Sunday, Oct. 14th, is the last NFLA Business Meeting of the year. Lois Walker will be presenting a slide show at 7PM entitled “A Glimpse of North Fork History: Schools, Teachers, Post Offices.” The general meeting will begin at 8PM. Please bring a snack to share with your friends and neighbors.
In addition, this will be your last opportunity to contribute to the annual food drive. Every year, members of the North Fork community bring food items to Sondreson Hall for collection. Items collected this year will be delivered to a local food bank after the meeting.
Acceptable items include canned goods, packaged goods, dried milk, etc. Baby food is an especially good item to donate.
Items that are not acceptable include those that have been opened, are not in their original container, or are damaged in any way. Unfortunately, home canned goods are also considered unacceptable. However, items whose expiration date has passed are acceptable as long as they are not more than two years out of date.
Tax deductible contributions in the form of a check are also welcomed. You can get more information about this at the meeting.
This food drive, begun years ago by Bob Grimaldi, is a way for the North Fork to get involved in a community service project, improve our image and provide others with a small share of our good fortune. If you don’t have these items on hand, pick them up the next time you’re out shopping and bring them to the meeting on Sunday.
