Evaluation of five organophosphate insecticides and herbicides

By | April 5, 2015

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization, has assessed the carcinogenicity of five organophosphate pesticides. A summary of the final evaluations together with a short rationale have now been published online in The Lancet Oncology (free of charge), and the detailed assessments published as Volume 112 of the IARC Monographs.

One of the herbicides of particular interest is glyphosate, the active ingredient in a popular product called Roundup. We’re not qualified to assess this information, but there are plenty others who have an opinion. Google “World Health Organization glyphosate” to get all of these. You can also contact the Flathead County Weeds Department from here with questions.
