Deer, elk, and 900 cattle graze the ranch’s rolling pasture amid stands of 100-foot-tall ponderosa pines. In summer the ranch is also home to 15 to 20 grizzlies. The bears are part of a 1,000-strong population living in the 96,000-square-mile Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (NCDE), a rugged, mostly mountainous region that extends north from the Blackfoot Valley into Alberta and British Columbia.
